The city of Austin and many other
communities offer curbside recycling collection.
Austin Curbside Collection
City of Austin crews collect household trash,
recyclable materials and yard waste once a week on designated days.

Recyclables: Place glass bottles and jars,
aluminum cans, tin/steel cans, junk mail, home office paper,
newspapers, magazines, corrugated cardboard, plastic soda bottles,
plastic milk jugs and all other plastic bottles coded No. 1 or No. 2
into city-issued blue recycling bins, cardboard boxes, paper sacks or
other open containers easily distinguishable from trash. Do not use
garbage cans or plastic bags.
Outside Austin
Many private disposal companies offer curbside
collection in designated areas. Here are several Central Texas cities

BFI Recycling--Buys corrugated cardboard,

Ecology Action--Drop-off center recycles

Williamson County
Georgetown Public Collection Station--Accepts
motor oil, vehicle batteries, oil filters, tires, kitchen grease and
cooking oil. Current Georgetown address is required to receive a

Hays County Transfer Station--Accepts

Caldwell County
City of Lockhart Recycle Center--Accepts
newspaper, office paper, computer paper, No. 1 and No. 2 plastic
bottles, aluminum cans, tin/steel cans, corrugated cardboard, motor oil

Hazardous Material
Austin's Department of Solid Waste Services operates
the Hazardous Home Chemical Collection Facility, which is open to all
Travis County residents. Home chemicals are accepted Tuesdays and
Wednesdays noon to 7 p.m. 2514 Business Center Drive. 974-4343.
Materials accepted: paint, stains, varnishes, paint
thinners, antifreeze, brake and transmission fluids, motor oil, oil
filters, solvents, degreasers, acids, drain cleaners, pesticides,
fertilizers, aerosol cans, pool chemicals, photographic chemicals,
pharmaceuticals, pest strips, flea collars and batteries of all types
from households only. Do not leave material when the facility is not
open. Place broken or leaking containers in a second container of
similar material.
Outside Travis County, some drop-off centers and many
automotive service shops accept motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze and
other hazardous materials. For additional information, call the Texas
